State Rep. Josh Schriver today issued the following statement after the Kent County prosecutor announced criminal charges against Traci Kornak. Schriver, R-Oxford, serves on the House Oversight Committee.
“The criminal charges announced today show exactly why the House Oversight Committee has been taking a hard look at this case. There were serious allegations involving the attorney general’s friend exploiting a vulnerable woman, and Dana Nessel crossed a personal conflict firewall to blow it off. The people deserve answers about what happened here.
“We held several hearings, subpoenaed records and took hours of public testimony to try and get to the bottom of this, all the way up to yesterday. That process raised serious questions about the attorney general’s multiple conflicts of interest and her conduct in this investigation. Today’s charges show we were right to push back. Dana Nessel tried to make this case go away, and she was dead wrong.
“Our job on the Oversight Committee is to strengthen transparency, accountability, and confidence in state government, especially with how vulnerable people are treated and protected. Cases like this are exactly why strong oversight is critical and while we will continue to push hard for results like this.”
