Rep. Bellino announces support for bipartisan plan to make health care more affordable, accessible
RELEASE|February 24, 2021

State Rep. Joseph Bellino today offered support for the bipartisan health care package recently announced in the Michigan House. The plan will improve the quality and affordability of health care in Michigan, making it easier for people to access the services they need.

Bellino, of Monroe, is supportive of the three major points the plan hits on: affordability, accessibility, and quality of care.

“Every patient should have access to world-class health care withoutworry, said Rep. Bellino. “This bipartisan proposal lessens the burden of costly prescription drugs, ensures patients have access to health care offerings that work for them, and increases the quality of care. These are issues affecting Michiganders across the state, and I am proud legislators were able to work across the aisle on this plan.”

The proposed changes include an insulin co-pay cap, prescription price transparency, the right to shop for prescriptions from out-of-network providers, accessibility to oral chemotherapy treatments, expansion of telehealth services, and restricting drug companies from giving physicians lavish gifts.

“Health care systems should work to benefit patients, not create more difficulty with cumbersome guidelines,” said Rep. Bellino. “The proposals in this plan are long overdue and I am confident they will greatly impact the patient care experience once put into practice.”
